Before any data acquisition is possible, the telescope control software must be run up, followed by that of CGS4's. The former is performed by the Telescope Operator (TO). After the observer runs up the CGS4 control software, the instrument is ready to receive instructions.
The settings of the spectrometer and the data acquisition parameters are stored in the CONFIG file. Loading this file sets up the instrument for data acquisition.
