Theoretical aspects of Asteroseismology

CAUP
This course will consist in two lectures during which I will provide an overview of different theoretical aspects of asteroseismology. During the first lecture I will concentrate on the basic properties of stellar oscillations, including their nature, origin and their asymptotic behaviour. Moreover, I will briefly discuss the forward and inverse approach in the context of asteroseismology, as complementary methods to study stellar structure and evolution. In the second lecture I will describe in more detail some of the inference methods. Finally, I will discuss the effect on the oscillation frequencies of departures from spherical symmetry introduced, for instance, by stellar rotation and stellar magnetic fields.
