Resumo
Low-metallicity late-type dwarf galaxies are important laboratories of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology. In this cookie seminar, following a brief introduction on the general properties of these galaxies and the motivation behind their study, I will present preliminary results from an ongoing integral field spectroscopy (IFS) study of UGC 4722 - one of the most isolated dwarf galaxies known. This metal-poor (12+log(O/H) ~ 7.5-7.6; Chengalur et al. 2015) and very gas rich dwarf galaxy (M_B=-17.4) shows extended star-forming activity and a ~14 kpc long stellar plume that has been suggested to result from a recent minor-merger episode. Using IFS data from the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field spectroscopy Area survey (CALIFA) we study stellar age patterns and the (ionized-gas and stellar) kinematics in this galaxy with the goal of gaining insight into its evolutionary status and the role that interactions may have played on its assembly history.
