Biographic notes
Pedro Viana received the "Licenciatura" (4 years) in Physics/Applied Mathematics - Astronomy branch from the University of Porto in 1992, the M.Sc. in Astronomy from the University of Sussex (U.K.) in 1993, and the D.Phil. from the University of Sussex in 1996.

From October 1996 to September 1999 he was a post-doctoral research fellow, first at the University of Sussex (supported by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council - PPARC), until September of 1997, and then, starting in October of 1997, at the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP), with a fellowship from the Fundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Since October of 1999 he has been a Lecturer at the Departement of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto.

His current research focuses on the application of techniques associated with bayesian statistical inference: in the detection and characterization of exoplanetary systems; in the identification of the physical processes that led to the formation and evolution of galaxies and galaxy clusters.
