The Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) accepts applications for two grants in the field of Asteroseismology, with financial support provided by FCT-MCTES and FEDER through the Project PTDC/CTE-AST/098754/2008 & FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-009292. The grants available are for two short term research programmes of, respectively, 3 and 6 months.

Applicants must have completed a degree in Physics, Astronomy or related subject. The grant will provide a monthly allowance of 745 euros, in accordance with the value established by FCT for 'Bolsa de Investigação (Licenciados).

The positions will be granted only if suitable candidates are found.

The research activities of the Asteroseismology Group at CAUP involve:

• the acquisition and analysis of seismic data of pulsating stars, as well as data for determining their precise global parameters;
• the improvement of stellar evolutionary codes and consequent computation of models for stars under study;
• the development and application of seismic tools to extract information about the structure and evolution of pulsating stars, and of the families they represent.

Successful applicants will work under the supervision of a member of CAUP’s Asteroseismology group.
