FCT has anounced the 2012 call for applications for PhD individual Grants (deadline 3 July at 17:00). These are individual grants for residents in Portugal, covering a period of 4 years and tuition fees.

CAUP will support applications that are broadly relevant for the following research topics:

• Origin and Evolution of Stars and Planets (Star Formation and Early Evolution, Planetary Systems, Stellar Populations and Evolution of Stars);
• Galaxies and Observational Cosmology (Galaxies and Clusters; Structure Formation, Dark Energy and Fundamental Physics);
• Scientific and Technical Development of Astronomical Instrumentation.

CAUP has the largest Astronomy research team in Portugal, and has been awarded the highest classification by FCT. CAUP offers excellent conditions for the development of PhD research projects, and has well established connections with major Astronomy research institutes in Europe. All PhD students are integrated in the ongoing national (FCT) and international (EC) funded projects.

FCT will only consider applications from prospective candidates with official residence in Portugal for a minimum of one year.

• 28 May: submission to CAUP of a CV, together with a brief statement of research interests
• 6 June: pre-selected candidates will be contacted in order to proceed with the detailed preparation of the application, under the supervision of a researcher at CAUP
• up to 3 July at 17:00: the full application is reviewed by the supervisor at CAUP and submitted by the candidate to FCT
