Research Assistantships

The Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) accepts applications for grants in the field of Asteroseismology, with fnancial support provided by FCT-MCES and FEDER through the Project POCI/CTE-AST/57610/2004. The grants available are for short term research programmes - with a minimum duration of three months and eventually renewable up to twelve months. The monthly allowance will follow the values established by FCT, with a minimum of 745 euros.

The research activities of the Asteroseismology Group at CAUP involve:

• the acquisition and analysis of seismic data of pulsating stars, as well as data for determining their precise global parameters;
• the improvement of stellar evolutionary codes and consequent computation of models for stars under study;
• the development and application of seismic tools to extract information about the structure and evolution of pulsating stars, and of the families they represent.

Successful applicants will work under the supervision of a member of CAUP's Asteroseismology group. Part of the project can take place abroad under the co-supervision of research collaborators of the Porto team.
